Houston: Suspect Vehicle Bursts Into Flames While Fleeing Crash
01.20.2020 | 12:15 AM | HOUSTON – A suspect who’s vehicle burst into flames while fleeing from a crash was taken into custody, early Monday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a Toyota Camry and a BMW in the 9100 block of Airline around 12:15 AM.
While responding authorities learned that the suspect, driving the BMW, was attempting to flee the scene.
Deputies in the area quickly located the suspect and his vehicle in the 100 block of West Gulf Bank and took him into custody without incident.
Firefighters responded to both scenes to treat the driver of the Camry and extinguish the BMW which had become engulfed in flames due to damage sustained while attempting to flee.
It took nearly 20 minutes for crews to extinguish the stubborn fire that extended into the vehicle’s gas tank.
The driver of the Camry was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
