Houston: Pursuit Ends With Shootout, Suspect Critically Injured
07.22.2020 | 12:44 AM | HOUSTON – A man who fled from officers was critically injured after a shootout, early Wednesday morning.
Officers attempted to stop a older-model white Ford Explorer they observed leaving a parking lot in a reckless fashion around 12:44 AM.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, leading the officers on a brief three-minute pursuit.
At one point the suspect shot at officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
The suspect was struck and crashed into tree in the 3300 block of Old Spanish Trail before attempting to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Firefighter paramedics treated the suspect on scene and rushed him to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
Neither of the officers were injured in the shootout.
The suspect faces charges including aggravated assault on a police officer if he survived his injuries.
A firearm believed to have been used by the suspect was recovered at the scene and is described as an assault rifle.
