Houston: Police Chief Nabs Street Racer On Drive Home

09.05.2019 | 10:45 PM | HOUSTON – The chief of the Houston Police Department nabbed a suspected street racer while driving home, Thursday night.

Chief Art Acevedo was headed home and traveling on the I-10 Freeway when a green Dodge Charger passed him at speeds in excess of 100 MPH around 10:45 PM.

A white Mercedes subsequently passed the Chief and appeared to be racing with the Charger before transitioning onto the I-45 Freeway.

The Chief quickly radioed in his observations and a helicopter responded to the scene to assist as he made a traffic stop on the white Mercedes.

Once stopped the driver of the Mercedes reportedly admitted he saw the other vehicle speeding and wanted to see what his car could do.

The suspect was placed under arrest for reckless driving and his vehicle was impounded.
