Houston: One Officer Dead, Another Critically Wounded After Police Helicopter Crashes
05.02.2020 | 2:04 AM | HOUSTON – One officer was dead and another was critically wounded after a police helicopter crashed, early Saturday morning.
Officers in Fox, the Houston Police Department’s police helicopter, were searching for individuals in the bayou around when the helicopter crashed into a building in the 17000 block of Imperial Valley Drive around 2:04 AM.
Ground units in the area quickly arrived on scene and discovered the wreckage with two victims trapped.
Firefighter paramedics extricated both victims from the scene and flew them to Memorial Hermann for treatment.
Tragically one of the two officers aboard the aircraft, reportedly the polit, succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The second officer was hospitalized in critical condition.
Three suspects were arrested about an hour after the crash when officers investigated heard gunshots in the area.
It was unclear if the arrests were related to the helicopter crash.
An extensive investigation involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies is ongoing.
