Houston: Horse, Horseman Killed While Crossing Freeway

12.16.2018 | 9:00 PM | HOUSTON – A horse and horseman were killed after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a freeway, Sunday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a crash involving a horse and a rider down in lanes on the Crosby Freeway near Lord Drive.

Units arriving on scene located a horse along with an apparent horseman who were both deceased on scene.

The vehicle that struck the horse and rider was on its way home from a nearby hospital with a newborn infant, a two-year-old child, mother, and father who all remained on scene.

Reports indicate the horseman was riding along the freeway’s shoulder when, for unknown reasons, the horse veered in front of the family-filled vehicle.

The two-year-old girl inside the vehicle suffered minor injures from broken glass however the rest of the family was unharmed.

Deputies were on scene investigating the incident.
