Houston: Bridge Collapse Leads To Train Derailment

10.21.2019 | 12:10 AM | HOUSTON – Several train cars derailed after a bridge apparently collapsed, early Monday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a train derailment near the intersection of Wayside and Liberty just south of the Loop around 12:10 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a train hauling tanks with hazardous materials labels that had derailed after a nearby bridge suffered a partial collapse.

First responders secured the area surrounding the crash but later determined the tanks that had derailed where empty and did not pose an immediate risk.

Wayside was closed in both directions just south of the Loop while authorities worked with Union Pacific to clear the scene.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the apparent bridge collapse is underway.
