House Fire Forces Family From South Whittier Home
A house fire caused significant damage to a home and displaced a family Monday afternoon in South Whittier.
At approximately 2:06 p.m. on July 21, 2026, the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a residential fire in the 13500 block of Lanning Drive.
When firefighters arrived, they found a large exterior fire with live power lines down along the east side of the home. The flames spread into the attic, causing significant damage to the residence.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, declaring knockdown at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Crews were advised that a cat and a dog were believed to be inside the home. However, no update was provided regarding whether the animals were located or their condition.
Building and Safety officials were requested to the scene to assess the structure, and at least one family is believed to have been displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
