Hostages Escape from Robbery Suspect [Caught On Video] | San Diego

01.14.2021 | 2:56 PM | SAN DIEGO – A white male walked into the Subway Sandwich store on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Blvd, and announced that he was robbing the place and brandished a knife. An employee called 911. An SDPD officer was outside at the time and responded. The suspect held the knife to the throat of the male employee. The officer backed out of the shop and called for backup. A full SWAT was called out. At some point, the employees, the male and a female saw an opportunity to run out to the police and they took it. After negotiating with the suspect, he surrendered without further incident approximately three hours after the incident began. Sports Arena was closed in both directions on the 3100 block.
