Hostage SWAT Incident Ends Peacefully
12.14.2020 | 6:42 AM | SAN DIEGO – The suspect went missing from his home over 3 days ago and the Police were looking for him. The male was found this morning in downtown San Diego around 4:30 am and returned home to his wife. The male is approx 80-years-old and suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia according to his family members.
He is a former Army Military Police Officer and a City of San Diego retiree.
His family told us that he was acting strangely for several days before he disappeared. At some point this morning after being brought back home, he snapped and said that people were after him.
He armed himself with a handgun and would not let his wife leave the house. She called family members and they called the Police. The male was heavily armed and was holding his wife hostage.
The SWAT team was called in and after approx 1 hour, the male let his wife leave the house. The Emergency Negotiation Team made contact and shortly thereafter, the male surrendered peacefully.
The Police told us that they have been at this house before and have seized the man’s weapons, but he was able to retain them later through the court system. The wife was not hurt.
