Hit & Run, Major Injury Traffic Collision
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 8-13-23, 5:24pm
LOCATION: Van Buren Blvd and Barton Street

DETAILS:
- City of Riverside Fire Department, Riverside Police Department and California Highway Patrol, Riverside responded to multiple reports of a traffic collision with people trapped.
- When the first units arrived, they found 2 vehicles, a white truck and a blue car with major damage and one young boy who was a passenger inside the blue car trapped.
- Firefighters used heavy equipment, extrication tools to get the passenger out of the vehicle.
- Extrication took about 15 minutes.
- The boy was transported to a local area hospital suffering from serious injuries.
- His age and current status in not known
- The driver of the car who was the older brother of the boy was also transported with less severe but unknown injuries.
- No one in the truck was injured but they were all visibly shaken.
- According to police, investigation is early but at this time it appears that the blue car was driving on Van Buren Blvd when he was rear ended, causing him to go into oncoming traffic where he was t-boned by the white truck. The vehicle that hit him fled the scene.
- There were multiple witnesses on scene who saw the blue car swerve into oncoming traffic, similar to a u-turn when the truck hit it and the 2nd car take off after the collision
- The driver of the truck, his wife and 1 year old daughter were on their way to get birthday photos done when the crash occurred, you can see the baby in the video.
