Hit & Run Driver Strikes Hydrant, Lands On Parked Car | Whittier
06.18.2021 | 12:47 AM | WHITTIER – A hit & run driver caused a fairly decent amount of destruction in the eastbound lanes of Whittier Boulevard after striking a fire hydrant. Authorities were called shortly after 12:45 AM to the 15800 Block of Whittier Blvd regarding a solo vehicle crash with unknown injuries.Arriving, police located a single vehicle that took out a street light pole and a fire hydrant, causing it to go airborne before partially landing onto the back of a parked car. The vehicle was abandoned and debris littered the roadway as a 20 foot water geyser spewed water back down into the street. Police had eastbound lanes blocked for at least an hour as firefighters and water department crews worked to shut off the water, in which they experienced difficulty finding the shut off. Most of the water was shut off by 2 AM, however crews are still working to clear the area as of now. There is no known suspect information in the crash.
