- On October 24th, 2024, at about 12:09 AM, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a reported fire at the Historic Harris Building near 2nd Street and E Street in San Bernardino.
- The first engine on the scene reported heavy black smoke from the roof.
- Transients leaving the building reported that up to 5 people may still be inside, but no one was located.
- A second and third alarm was requested due to the size of the building and the manpower needed.
- Access was difficult as all of the doors were covered in reinforced steel.
- A zone retreat occurred as the roof started sagging, and a collapse occurred.
- The fire was controlled about two and a half hours after the dispatch.
- The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- No injuries were reported.
- Firefighters had an extensive overhaul due to the roof collapse.
- Fourteen Engines, four trucks, four chiefs, an investigator, and an incident support rig responded to the fire.
