High Tide Sends Waves Crashing Against Long Beach Peninsula

High tide brought waves crashing against the Long Beach Peninsula Monday morning as city crews continued adding sand to help protect the shoreline.

Between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on September 28, 2026, waves could be seen striking the seawall as the tide rose.
Sand barriers had already been placed along portions of the Peninsula, while City of Long Beach crews were still actively adding sand near the end of the Peninsula.

The rising tide drew residents, spectators and members of the media to the area to watch the waves and observe the shoreline conditions.

Video from the scene shows waves repeatedly hitting the seawall as crews continued their work.
The effectiveness of the sand barriers and whether any flooding or property damage occurred were not immediately known.
