High-Speed Pursuit Ends In Violent Freeway Rollover

A high-speed sheriff’s pursuit ended in a violent rollover crash that sent multiple people to trauma centers late Saturday night in Vista.

At approximately 10:53 p.m. on July 5, 2026, San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations near North Avenue and Melrose Drive.

According to authorities, the driver fled, running multiple stop signs and red lights through city streets before entering westbound State Route 78 from Melrose Drive, where speeds reportedly exceeded 100 mph.

The pursuit came to a violent end when the suspect vehicle slammed into the rear of a pickup truck carrying four occupants.

The impact caused both vehicles to overturn, leaving multiple people with serious injuries.

The suspect vehicle was occupied by four people. Three occupants were taken into custody, while a fourth suspect fled the scene and remained outstanding.

Several occupants from both vehicles were transported to local trauma centers for treatment. Due to the severity of the injuries, a medical helicopter was requested for one of the occupants from the suspect vehicle.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Vista Fire Department, Oceanside Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
