High-Speed Prius Pursuit Across San Diego County

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 11-10-23 9:40 am approx
LOCATION: Throughout the County

DETAILS:

1. A CHP attempted to pull over the male driver of a Toyota Prius as they were traveling westbound on the I-8 near Willows Rd in Alpine.
2. The driver failed to yield and reached speeds of 105 mph.
3. SDSO Deputies then fell into the pursuit but dropped out.
4. The Pursuit went from the I-8 to north Hwy 67 and back down to the I-8.
5. The driver drove into the San Diego City Limits, where SDPD officers joined the pursuit.
6. The driver then took the northbound I-5 to the SR-52 east and then up to the northbound I-805.
7. He continued north to the I-5 and sometimes would slow to 20 mph and then even stop before fleeing again.
8. Once he reached Oceanside, he surrendered and stopped in the HOV lane.
9. Two times, he called 911 and told the dispatchers that if Federal Agents didn’t stop him, then the situation would turn deadly.
10. Law Enforcement then assumed that he was armed & dangerous.
11. It’s not believed that any weapons were found in the Prius.
