Helicopters Rescue Stranded Hikers in Hesperia
At approximately 4:01pm on March 21st, 2026, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a technical rescue at Deep Creek Trail in Hesperia.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a group of approximately six to eight hikers, including children, who reported they had run out of food and water and were unable to continue hiking out. One individual also reported an injury, though the extent was not immediately known.
Due to the terrain and conditions, two helicopters from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were requested to assist in the rescue operation. Crews located the hikers along the trail and began airlifting them to a nearby landing zone atop the Deep Creek Dam.
Rescue efforts were complicated by extreme weather conditions, including temperatures near 90 degrees and strong winds ranging from 25 to 30 mph.
All individuals were successfully rescued and evaluated by medical personnel. Only one injury was reported.
