Heavy Duty Tow Truck Causes Fiery Crash

LOCATION: I-10 Transmountain Road – N. Desert Blvd
AREA/CITY: El Paso, Texas
DETAILS:
- One person was confirmed Dead after a heavy-duty tow truck hauling a semi-truck lost its brakes coming down Transmountain Road in West El Paso.
- The tow truck crashed into several vehicles, causing major damage and catching fire.
- The tow truck continued for about 800 feet, ripping through street lights, and finally came to a stop near a construction site..
- Eight people were injured, one transported via F-start helicopter in serious condition, and one transported via ambulance in critical condition. Four others were transported with minor injuries. Two others refused treatment.
- Special Traffic Investigators are at the scene investigating the crash.
- TXDOT confirmed that all lanes were closed in both directions at spur 16 at Talbot, North/South Desert Blvd, and Transmountain Rd near the I-10 Freeway.
- The condition of the Tow Truck Driver is unknown at this time.
