Hacienda Heights: One Dead After Car Flies Off Cliff, Other Occupant Airlifted
11.11.2018 | 12:20 PM | HACIENDA HEIGHTS – One person was dead and another was airlifted to a hospital after their car came flying off a cliff, Sunday afternoon.
Police and fire officials responded around 12:20 PM to mile marker 3.38 on Turnbull Canyon Road regarding reports of a crash.
Officers arriving on scene located a vehicle on its roof that had apparently driven off the road before falling 100 feet down a cliff. Both occupants of the vehicle were trapped beneath the wreckage.
Firefighters arriving on scene initiated a high-angle rope rescue using a rope pulley system to descend the cliff.
Crews discovered one patient deceased underneath the car on their arrival and a passenger who was seriously injured.
The passenger was loaded onto a stokes basket and walked up by crews using the rope pulley system. Once topside paramedics transported the patient into an awaiting helicopter for transport to USC Medical Center.
Officer shut down Turnbull Canyon Road in both directions pending the arrival of the coroner.
