Guy Circles Mom’s House in Hour-long Car Chase| Norwalk
6.14.2021 | 2:00 AM | NORWALK – A man observed running two red lights in the city of Whittier failed to yield to deputies, prompting an hours-long pursuit spanning from Commerce to Orange County, ending up at his mom’s house Monday morning.
Deputies from the Norwalk LASO Station first observed the reckless driver driving westbound Lambert Road near Santa Fe Springs Road in the city of Whittier. When he refused to pull over, additional units were requested to assist.
The driver sped through intersections at high speeds, blowing more red lights and swerving. A LA County Sheriff helicopter came overhead and deputies went into surveillance mode on the vehicle.
The driver eventually got on the NB I-5 freeway from the Santa Fe Springs area and proceeded north into East Los Angeles. CHP Santa Fe Springs took over the pursuit as it exited onto neighborhood streets in East LA.
The driver got back on the Southbound I-5 Freeway and called 911, stating he was going to his mom’s house in Norwalk, and that he “was going to put up a fight” and was “in fear for his life”.
The driver circled the neighborhood for a while, yelling unintelligible words at our cameras, then got back onto the SB I-5 and drove onto surface streets in La Palma, playing chicken with oncoming motorists head on. At this point, units resorted back to surveillance mode.
The suspect came back north into Norwalk and was successfully spiked pulling back onto his mom’s street. The suspect then pulled into his mom’s driveway and refused to cooperate, leading to a standoff that lasted 15 minutes long.
The driver eventually stepped away from the car and sat on the curb, where officers eventually detained the man peacefully. It is unclear why exactly he fled to begin with.
