Fullerton: Suspect Shot, Killed By Police After Stabbing K9 Officer
05.27.2020 | 10:00 PM | FULLERTON – A man was shot and killed by police after he stabbed a K9 police officer, Wednesday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a family disturbance involving a man who had retrieved a firearm and fired off several shots in the 3600 block of West Avenue around 10:00 PM.
Officers arriving on scene were met with several individuals who had fled from the home.
Moments later the suspect exited the home armed with a knife and refused to comply with orders to drop the weapon.
A police K9 was deployed and attempted to take the man into custody but the suspect stabbed the dog prompting an officer-involved shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to an area hospital by firefighter paramedics where he was pronounced deceased on scene.
The K9 police officer was immediately rushed to an animal hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and was expected to make a full recovery.
The identity of the suspect or K9 officer was not immediately released.
The area surrounding the shooting is cordoned off while the Orange County District Attorney’s Office investigates.
