Franklin Fire Explodes Destroys Malibu Homes

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 12-9-24 at about 11:00 PM

DETAILS:

1. On December 9th, 2024, at about 11:00 PM, Los Angeles County Fire responded to a reported vegetation fire near S. Malibu Canyon Rd, North of Francisco Ranch Rd in Malibu.
2. Units arrived at the scene and reported a 1-acre fire in medium to heavy brush with a rapid rate of spread.
3. A few minutes later, a 2nd alarm response was requested as the fire grew to 10+ acres with a potential for 100 acres.
4. The fire grew to 30 acres, and a 3rd alarm was requested.
5. Mandatory evacuations were requested on Genasys.
6. The fire grew to 100 acres by midnight, and by 1 AM, the fire had reportedly been spotted on the west side of Malibu Canyon Rd.
