Flames Destroy Sedan on 5 Freeway in National City

11.06.2020 | 10:39 AM | NATIONAL CITY – A Hyundai sedan was totaled by flames as the driver ran for safety Friday morning.

San Diego Fire Department firefighters responded to southbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway just north of 8th St street shortly after 10:30 AM.

The female driver of the Hyundai started to experience issues while driving on the freeway.

She pulled over to the right shoulder and the vehicle started to smoke.

She was able to get out of the car before the engine compartment caught fire.

Firefighters promptly arrived, however there was little they could do to save it by then as flames engulfed the rest of the vehicle.

Thankfully, there were no injuries to report.
