Firefighters Stop Freeway Brush Fire In Riverside

A fast-moving vegetation fire briefly threatened Interstate 215 traffic Thursday afternoon in Riverside before firefighters quickly contained it.

At approximately 3:03 p.m. on July 16, 2026, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire, the Riverside Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vegetation fire near the northbound Interstate 215 on-ramp at Alessandro Boulevard.

When CHP officers arrived, they found the fire burning behind several warehouses, with wind pushing the flames toward the freeway and the on-ramp.

To provide firefighters with safe access, CHP closed the northbound Alessandro Boulevard on-ramp while crews entered from the freeway, causing significant traffic delays.

Thanks to a rapid response, firefighters stopped the fire’s forward progress and held it to less than one acre.

The on-ramp remained closed while crews extinguished hot spots and completed mop-up operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
