Firefighters Go Swimming While Trying To Shut Off Sheared Hydrant

DETAILS:

  1. A semi-truck with a trailer driver was backing up to the Ralph’s store loading dock when he hit the fire hydrant.
  2. Water was shooting over 50 ft into the air for approx 40 minutes.
  3. The parking lot was flooded, and the firefighters had a difficult time finding the shut-off valve.
  4. At times, the firefighters appeared to be swimming as they were trying to find the valve.
  5. After finding the valve, the water was shut down after approx. 40 minutes and the water is starting to drain.
  6. Water made it into the underground parking but was draining quickly.
