Firefighters Battle Raging Early Morning Fire

Mesa Fire was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Drew Street near 10th Ave early Tuesday morning.

Crews arrived and found a large heavily involved structure in the backyard of a home.

According to Mesa Fire radio traffic;
Crews had a difficult time accessing the backyard due to cluttered conditions.

Several “booby traps” and an underground tunnel posed a hazard to firefighters operating on the fireground. 

Firefighters transitioned to a defensive posture, fighting the blaze from exterior positions.

A tower ladder was quickly positioned over the fire and an elevated master stream was deployed to assist with firefighting efforts.

Two occupants of the house were located, one sustaining minor burns on their hands.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is under investigation.
