Firefighter Injured When Train Ran Over Hose Line

PICO RIVERA (CNS) – A Los Angeles County firefighter suffered moderate injuries Sunday while battling a lumberyard [A railroad tie pile] fire in Pico Rivera.

The fire was reported at 10:13 p.m. Sunday at the lumberyard at Cord Avenue and Rivera Road, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Fred Fielding told City News Service. That location is near Slauson Avenue and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway.

The firefighter suffered what Fielding termed “an indirect injury” when a train [Amtrak reportedly] ran over the hose the firefighter was holding.

The firefighter was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, Fielding said.

The fire was out at 10:54 p.m., he said. No structures were involved in the blaze.
