Fire at Recycling Center
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1153pm 8-25-25
LOCATION: 2015 Quitman St
AREA/CITY: Houston
DETAILS:
- HFD responded to reports of a commercial fire
- As units were en route, HPD NE officers saw a fire and small explosion
- HFD arrived to find a metal pile on fire next to 4 massive tanks (later determined to be water tanks)
- the metal was reacting to the water, which indicated the presence of magnesium
- It took firefighters about 2 hours to get the bulk of the fire under control
- Once HFD and Recycling employees were able to spread out the metal on fire, and deploy dry chemicals, the fire was able to be brought under a safe level
- Per D19, The facility has requested additional dry chem to deploy on the remnants of the fire, and will be turning it over to one of their contractors
- All info confirmed off camera with District Chief 19, who was incident commander, and declined to come on camera
- HFD deployed one of their new Kite system to monitor the fire using thermal and standard cameras.
