Fiery I-10 Crash Involving Semi Truck

LOCATION: I-10 (Westbound) & 67th Ave

DETAILS:
- Shortly before midnight Wednesday evening, DPS Troopers responded to reports of a disabled motor vehicle in the westbound lanes of travel on I-10 near 67th Ave.
- According to DPS radio traffic:
As Troopers were en-route to assist the motorist, Traffic Operation Center camera operators observed the vehicle being struck by a semi truck. - Troopers arrived and located an older model pickup truck that was heavily damaged and engulfed in flames.
- The male driver of the vehicle was located unconscious on the side of the interstate along with several witnesses.
- DPS closed the I-10 West and the L-202 transition ramp to the westbound lanes of the I-10.
- Phoenix Fire was dispatched and quickly arrived on scene where they began extinguishing the fire.
- The driver of the pickup was evaluated and transported to a local area hospital in reportedly stable condition according to Phoenix Fire radio traffic.
- The driver of the semi truck was given a field sobriety test, the results of which have yet to be confirmed.
- The I-10 was eventually opened except for the HOV lane as tow crews work to remove the vehicles involved.
