Fiery Crash Claims Life of One and Leaves Female Critically Burned

LOCATION: Westbound Sam Houston Feeder & Wilson Rd
AREA/CITY: Houston
DETAILS:
- HCSO and Fire/ EMS responded to reports of a major crash with live power lines down
- Arriving units located a solo vehicle which struck a power pole
- The transformers from that pole came down on the vehicle and the vehicle began to catch fire
- 2 occupants were trapped inside the vehicle
- Firefighters had to wait for the power lines to be de-energized before putting water on the fiery wreck
- Male driver was pronounced deceased inside the vehicle
- Female passenger was extricated and taken to a nearby trauma center
- Female has burns to over 70% of her body
- Unknown if speed or alcohol played a role in the crash
- It was not raining at the time of the crash, but the roads were wet, which could have been a contributing factor
- All Westbound lanes of Sam Houston are closed for the duration of the investigation
