Female Killed by Possible DUI Driver, Child Survived

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1am 2-24-26
LOCATION: Clay Road & Sam Houston Tollway
AREA/CITY: Houston
DETAILS:

  1. NW patrol called out to scene on Clay Rd & Sam Houston Toll Road for MVA involving pickup truck and small sedan
  2. Female driver (unknown age) was sitting at the light along with another vehicle next to her attempting to go through
  3. When light turned green and they headed east on clay rd, a vehicle that was coming down Sam Houston tollway ran the light and struck the female’s vehicle and pushed her a long way through the intersection and came to rest up on a curb
  4. She had a child in the backseat that was restrained
  5. Child was transported to an area hospital without injuries
  6. Female child between age of 1 to 3
  7. Male driver that ran the light attempted to flee
  8. HPD officers found him 100 yards from his disabled vehicle
  9. Male is currently in custody
  10. HPD called DRE and checked him out, do believe he was impaired at the time
  11. DA also running a parallel investigation with HPD, will be writing up warrants for drivers blood
  12. HPD has no ID on driver yet, unknown if he has a DUI or reckless driving history
  13. Charges he’s facing is intoxicated manslaughter
  14. Road will be closed for hours
  15. Unknown if woman was baby’s mother
