Female Killed by Possible DUI Driver, Child Survived
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1am 2-24-26
LOCATION: Clay Road & Sam Houston Tollway
AREA/CITY: Houston
DETAILS:
- NW patrol called out to scene on Clay Rd & Sam Houston Toll Road for MVA involving pickup truck and small sedan
- Female driver (unknown age) was sitting at the light along with another vehicle next to her attempting to go through
- When light turned green and they headed east on clay rd, a vehicle that was coming down Sam Houston tollway ran the light and struck the female’s vehicle and pushed her a long way through the intersection and came to rest up on a curb
- She had a child in the backseat that was restrained
- Child was transported to an area hospital without injuries
- Female child between age of 1 to 3
- Male driver that ran the light attempted to flee
- HPD officers found him 100 yards from his disabled vehicle
- Male is currently in custody
- HPD called DRE and checked him out, do believe he was impaired at the time
- DA also running a parallel investigation with HPD, will be writing up warrants for drivers blood
- HPD has no ID on driver yet, unknown if he has a DUI or reckless driving history
- Charges he’s facing is intoxicated manslaughter
- Road will be closed for hours
- Unknown if woman was baby’s mother
