Fatal Wrong Way Freeway Crash | Vista

1.03.2021 | 10:16 PM | VISTA – An innocent motorist was killed and a man is expected to be arraigned on murder charges once he is discharged from the hospital.

Crews responded to reports of a pickup truck going wrong way on the westbound 78 shortly after 10:15 PM Sunday night.

Dispatchers received a call shortly thereafter that the truck had crashed head-on into a vehicle just east of Sycamore Avenue.

The crash caused major damage to both cars, flipping the pickup upside down.

The suspect driver (from the pickup truck) was transported in moderate condition to a nearby hospital.

The victim driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Firefighters used the “jaws of life” to free both victims.

All but one westbound lane was shut down for the investigation.

CHP believes alcohol played a factor in the crash.
