Fatal Wrong Way Crash, Houston, TX

DETAILS:
- HPD investigating fatal crash involving a wrong way driver at East Freeway (westbound) next to Lockwood Dr
- There was a KIA sedan driving w/b legally on east freeway
- There was a call that came in from a wrong way driver on 59 near Minute Maid Stadium which may be the same vehicle since the timing matches up
- This vehicle is a Nissan sports car driving e/b in the w/b lanes at a high rate of speed
- There was a TXDOT work crew doing work on roadway and witnessed the crash
- One of their officers and workers saw everything
- Nissan slammed into KIA
- The Nissan erupted into car parts and caught on fire
- There was a male driver in the vehicle, was trapped in the vehicle
- When HFD arrived the male driver was deceased
- Female in KIA has serious injuries, was unconscious on scene, critical condition at hospital
- Nissan doesn’t have a license plate, no one claims to know the driver
- Medical examiner will be on scene
- Due to nature of crash HPD won’t be able to leave the freeway for a long time (possibly until 6am)
- Will take a long time to identify the driver, and vehicle will be sent to lot to pull the VIN to see who the car belongs to
- Based on roadway evidence and witness testimony the TXDOT road crew may have video of the crash as well
