Fatal Shooting At Planet Fitness

DETAILS:

  1. A Moreno Valley man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of killing a man in Perris and leading deputies on a pursuit.
  2. Deputies responded to the 1600 block of north Perris Boulevard after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
  3. They located a man suffering from gunshot injuries and began life- saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.
  4. At about 12:50 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle was located in Beaumont by a sheriff’s aviation unit. Deputies and Beaumont police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect allegedly failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.
  5. Deputies pursued the suspect’s vehicle into Hemet, where the pursuit ended at the intersection of Florida and Acacia avenues.
  6. The suspect was identified as Ernesto Lopez Jr., 46, who was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder and felony evading, according to Sgt. Jarred Bishop.
  7. The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification to the next of kin. No additional suspects were outstanding.
