Fatal Roll Over Crash After Possible Racing Another Vehicle
INCIDENT DATE/TIME:1-5-24, 11:04 a.m.
LOCATION: SR91 E AT NB 215 transition
AREA/CITY: Riverside, CA
DETAILS:
- Riverside Fire Department, Cal Fire Riverside, and California Highway Patrol responded to an overturned vehicle on the freeway.
- When units arrived on the scene, they found one vehicle with major damage and one person inside the vehicle trapped.
- Firefighters quickly began extrication of the patient who was in full arrest.
- That driver was transported with CPR in progress to a local area hospital with critical injuries, according to CHP on scene they are waiting for confirmation of the patient status at the hospital.
- At this time, it appears the driver was heading north on the eastbound 91 transition and, for unknown reasons, veered off the freeway at a high rate of speed, hit a light pole, knocking it down, and then hit the brick wall on the northbound 215 transition.
- According to several witnesses, the car was racing a white pickup that continued after the crash, but that is still being investigated.
- CHP is taking the vehicle for evidence; it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash or if any other vehicles were involved.
- A SIG Alert has been issued for an unknown duration.
