Fatal Collision After Vehicle Slams Into Power Pole

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on January 21st, 2026, officers with the Tacoma Police Department and firefighters with the Tacoma Fire Department responded to a major traffic collision at the intersection of Portland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue in Tacoma.

Investigators stated a vehicle traveling at a very high rate of speed lost control and struck a power pole. One occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities had not yet determined whether the surviving occupant was the driver or a passenger. Police stated charges could be forthcoming pending the outcome of the investigation and confirmation of who was driving at the time of the crash.

The incident remained under investigation.
