Family Trapped After Crashing Under Dump Truck

At approximately 11:11 p.m. on June 29, 2026, emergency crews responded to a serious traffic collision on eastbound State Route 78 near Mar Vista Drive in Vista.

Multiple 911 callers reported that a passenger vehicle had crashed underneath a dump truck that was operating within an active freeway construction zone.

Firefighters, who were already working a separate incident nearby, arrived within minutes and found a Nissan sedan lodged beneath the rear of the construction vehicle.

Three occupants—including two adults and one infant—were trapped inside the wreckage and required an extensive extrication by firefighters before they could be safely removed.

All three patients were transported to local trauma centers for treatment. Authorities have not released the extent of their injuries.

According to dispatch traffic, the collision involved a Nissan sedan and a dump truck assigned to the freeway construction project.

This was the third reported crash within approximately one mile and within about an hour in the same construction zone, keeping emergency crews extremely busy throughout the night.

The California Highway Patrol remained on scene investigating the cause of the collision.
