Families Flee As Fire Burns Behind Riverside Homes

At approximately 11:25 p.m. on June 8, 2026, Riverside firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire burning behind homes near Indiana Avenue and the 91 Freeway.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire burning through ivy along the freeway sound wall, thick brush, and several palm trees directly behind multiple residential properties.

Due to the immediate threat to nearby homes, additional resources were requested and a second alarm was declared.

Riverside Police officers evacuated several homes as firefighters worked to stop the flames from spreading into the neighborhood. Video from the scene shows families, children, and pets being evacuated as crews battled the fire.

Authorities also received reports of possible propane tanks located behind some of the threatened residences, adding to concerns for firefighter and public safety.

At least one home sustained damage during the incident, and officials said several residences would remain evacuated overnight while firefighters conducted extensive mop-up and overhaul operations.

According to witnesses, one resident was transported to a hospital after reportedly seeing the fire and suffering a medical emergency.

A SigAlert was issued on the eastbound 91 Freeway west of Adams Street while crews worked along the freeway and continued containment efforts.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
