Extremely Difficult Rescue | Pine Valley
03.27.2022 | 9:33 AM | PINE VALLEY – A Good Samaritan called 911 stating that a silver-colored sedan had driven off of the eastbound I-8 and over the side of the Pine Valley Creek Gorge.
1st Responders found the car on its roof approx 100 ft down into the gorge.
Firefighters made their way to the car and found the male driver trapped inside.
The roof was crushed and the victim was trapped by his arm in the wreckage.
Access was extremely difficult and the rescue took over 2 hours.
At one point the car started to shift and the tow truck was brought in to bring the tow cable to the vehicle to help securing it from sliding further into the canyon as firefighters were working inside of the car to cut the victim out.
After finally getting the male out of the car, he was brought to the top by a pulley system.
The victim was medivaced by Helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital for his injuries.
A firefighter was also transported to a local hospital for dehydration as temps were in the 80’s in the canyon.
The car also took out a windsock and 80 feet of chainlink fencing on its way over the edge.
