Exposition Park: Fire At Boarding Home Kills Man, Leaves His Sister Critically Injured

08.22.2019 | 12:30 PM | LOS ANGELES – One man was dead and his sister hospitalized in critical condition after a fire broke out at the boarding house they lived in, early Thursday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a fire inside a boarding home in the 1000 block of West Leighton Avenue in the Exposition Park area around 12:30 AM.

Crews arriving on scene found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home with residents still inside.

Firefighters rescued a 60-year-old man and his 50-year-old sister from the home.

Both victims were treated on scene before being transported to an area hospital. The male later succumbed to his injuries while his sister was considered to be in critical condition.

The fire was extinguished by more than 50 firefighters in just over 30 minutes.

One firefighter suffered minor smoke inhalation while rescuing the victims and was transported to an area hospital as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
