Escondido: Children Injured After DUI Driver Rear-Ends Van Causing It To Rollover, Burst Into Flames
12.14.2019 | 11:55 PM | ESCONDIDO – A father rescued his three children after a suspected DUI driver rear-ended the van they were riding in causing it to overturn and burst into flames, late Saturday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision with fire on the off ramp from the I-15 Freeway to Via Rancho Parkway around 11:55 PM.
Units arriving on scene located a van that had been rear-ended forcing it to overturn and burst into flames.
Officers learned that the driver of the van, a father, had pulled his three children from their vehicle before it could be consumed by flames.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and treated the father and his three children on scene before transporting them to an area hospital with only minor injuries.
The driver who rear-ended the van was arrested on suspicion of DUI after completing field sobriety tests.
An officer on scene reported that the father and his children had hair singed from their close proximity to the fire.
