El Sereno: Suspect Dead After Ambushing Officers Stopped At Intersection
08.18.2019 | 11:35 PM | LOS ANGELES – A suspect who ambushed a pair of officers stopped at an intersection was mortally wounded, late Sunday night.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division were stopped at the intersection of Lombardy Boulevard and Alhambra Avenue in the El Sereno neighborhood around 11:30 PM when a man opened fire on them.
The officers were able to make an urgent call for help on their radios while returning fire at the suspect who fled westbound on foot through an alley.
Officers chased the suspect who continued to return fire at them before a final exchange of gunfire left the suspect wounded.
Firefighter paramedics treated the suspect on scene before transporting him to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No officers were wounded in the shooting but a bullet hole could be observed in their patrol vehicle.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
An extensive investigation into the officer-involved shooting was underway.
