El Cajon: Suspected Car Thief Shot To Death By Armed Citizen

03.28.2019 | 9:30 AM | EL CAJON – A suspected car thief was dead after a scuffle broke when an attempted car theft went awry, Thursday morning.

Authorities responded to the reported shooting near the El Cajon Inn & Suites in the 1300 block of East Main Street around 9:30 AM.

Units arriving on scene found a man down suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Firefighter paramedics pronounced the man deceased on scene.

Initial reports indicate an off-duty security guard interrupted a car theft or car jacking. At some point the owner of the involved vehicle got involved in a confrontation with the suspect.

According to witnesses at the scene, the shooter was backing up while the suspect continued to approach him before opening fire.

The street was closed while police investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
