East Whittier: Crash Into Power Pole Knocks Out Power Neighborhood

07.28.2019 | 10:04 AM | EAST WHITTIER – A crash into a power pole left one man injured and several hundred without power, Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving power pole near the intersection of Lambert and Celestine roads around 10:04 AM.

Units arriving on scene found a pickup truck that had struck a power pole, downing several lines which trapped the driver inside.

Firefighter paramedics arriving on scene determined the lines blocking the driver’s exit from the vehicle were only cable lines and assisted the man out before transporting him to an area hospital.

The force of the crash dislodged several lines that did transport electricity resulting in an outage for approximately 200 people in the immediate area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
