Early Morning Pursuit Ended With Grappler Device | Phoenix

02.25.2022 | 2:00 AM | PHOENIX – An AZ DPS state trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black Chevy Impala near interstate 17 and Thomas Road shortly before 2:00 AM Friday morning.

The vehicle ignored the troopers’ emergency lights and sirens fleeing eastbound on Thomas at an estimated 55 miles an hour.

The trooper initiated a pursuit and called for assistance from the Phoenix Police Air Unit.

DPS stood down, terminating the pursuit as the vehicle traveled East into the uptown Phoenix area.

Phoenix Police ground units with assistance from the air unit re-acquired the vehicle near 24th Street and Thomas Road.

Phoenix Police attempted a traffic stop as well with no luck. Officers quickly initiated a tactical surveillance operation, tracking the vehicle from the air as ground units followed at a safe distance.

The vehicle turned around near 64th Street and Thomas Road and began traveling back Westbound on Thomas Road.

A Phoenix Police K9 unit equipped with a Grappler Police Bumper successfully grappled the vehicle near 40th Street and Thomas Road bringing the sedan to a stop.

One male suspect was taken into custody for a felony flight from law enforcement, a female passenger was detained.
