DUI Driver Strikes Occupants of Disabled Vehicle

FATAL CRASH ON SR-91 WESTBOUND WEST OF MCKINLEY STREET
CORONA, Calif. – On July 27, 2024, at approximately 10:59 PM, CHP Riverside units
responded to a call of a crash involving two vehicles, a Nissan Altima and a BMW 528i, on State
Route 91 westbound, west of McKinley Street. The preliminary investigation revealed the
BMW and a Hyundai were disabled and stopped on the right shoulder with all occupants
standing on the right shoulder dirt embankment. The driver of a Nissan Altima was traveling
westbound on SR-91, west of McKinley Street and approaching the BMW. For reasons still
under investigation, the Nissan veered to the right onto the right shoulder and struck the left rear
of the BMW. After the initial impact, the BMW was pushed into the path of the five pedestrians
that were standing on the right shoulder dirt embankment. One of the pedestrians, a occupant in
the Hyundai, succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash. The additional four
pedestrians were transported to a local hospital with major injures. The driver of the Nissan, a
35-year-old resident of Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of
alcohol.
