DUI Driver Strikes 10 Parked Cars
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1.24.24 | 8:32 PM
LOCATION: 215th Street just west of Norwalk Blvd
AREA/CITY: Hawaiian Gardens
DETAILS:
- A trail of destruction was left behind along a quiet residential street by a man in a pickup truck who decided to play bumper cars, suspected of driving under the influence in Hawaiian Gardens Wednesday night.
- Sheriff deputies responded to original reports of a six car crash in the area shortly after 8:30 PM.
- Arriving, they located a white pickup truck that was traveling westbound on 215th Street when the driver struck at least 10 different cars on either side of the street over a span of 150 feet.
- A solo male driver was found, allegedly with his foot still on the gas as he became stuck against the final three parked cars he plowed into.
- Sheriff deputies immediately took him into custody with signs of impairment present (2:43 in video) before being checked out by EMTs and paramedics.
- The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment, due to a “elevated heart rate” per a paramedic on scene.
- Additional paramedics were requested for an elderly resident nearby who possibly suffered a panic attack as a result of the calamity that unfolded, and was eventually transported to a hospital as a result of being “weak and dizzy” per paramedic radio traffic.
- Many residents could be seen outside their homes surveying their wrecked vehicles.
