DUI Driver Overturns Car After Striking Pedestrian In DTLA

A suspected DUI driver was arrested after striking a pedestrian and overturning their vehicle late Monday night in downtown Los Angeles.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on July 21, 2026, emergency crews responded to Grand Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets following reports of a serious traffic collision.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was exiting a parking lot at a high rate of speed when it struck a pedestrian before the driver lost control and overturned. The impact pinned the pedestrian beneath the vehicle.

Firefighters worked to free the victim, who was transported to a local hospital. The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries has not been released.

Evidence from the scene suggested the force of the collision was significant, with the pedestrian’s hat coming to rest roughly 100 feet from where the overturned vehicle stopped.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the crash.
