DUI Driver Crashes Into Fire Hydrant Causing Geyser

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2/22/24 4:00 am
LOCATION: Montezuma Rd near 54th St
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:

 

  1. The male driver was heading eastbound on Montezuma Rd when he left the roadway and hit a fire hydrant.
  2. 2 Marines attempted to get the driver out of the car, but he refused.
  3. 1st responders were able to get the driver out of the car, as a large number of rocks, some the size of softballs. were flying from the water that was shooting into the air.
  4. Several of the car’s windows were broken, and the rocks were endangering the 1st Responders.
  5. It took the firefighters over 30 minutes to stop the waterflow.
  6. Eastbound Montezuma Rd is closed at Collwood Blvd and will be closed until a cleanup of the street can be done.
  7. The driver was “tested & Arrested” for DUI
