Drone Helps Firefighters Locate Lost Hiker In Carlsbad
At approximately 3:09 a.m. on May 8, 2026, emergency crews responded to reports of an injured and disoriented hiker in the Calavera Hills hiking area of Carlsbad.
Firefighters initially searched for the hiker but were unable to locate her and requested aerial support, though none was immediately available.
A drone was then launched to assist crews in searching the area and help guide firefighters toward the hiker’s last known location.
After an extended search, the hiker was located and guided out of the area to a waiting utility vehicle.
Paramedics evaluated the woman at the scene, but she declined transport to a hospital.
Her service dog was also safely rescued and given water following the ordeal.
Authorities believe the hiker may have been lost in the area for several hours before contacting 911.
