Driver Trapped After Wrong Way Crash In Phoenix

Around 11:15 Tuesday evening DPS Troopers responded to a reported wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of State Route 51 in Phoenix.

Shortly after, as Troopers were attempting to locate the vehicle they were notified of a head-on collision at Northern Ave.

Troopers arrived at the location and found a Nissan Altima that had rolled down an embankment after hitting a red Hyundai.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was initially trapped but was able to be extricated from the vehicle with the help of Troopers.

Phoenix Fire was dispatched to the location and transported the driver down the embankment to an awaiting Rescue where he was taken to a local area hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai did not sustain any serious injuries.
